Book #8 was Tokyo Woes by Bruce Jay Friedman.  The back of the book reads:

Driving out one morning to get the newspaper, Mike Halsey is dismayed to find that the Redneck Deli is closed. So is the diner. It is clear that Mike has only one choice left — he drives to the airport and books himself onto a flight to Japan. What follows is a confrontation between the American male and the Japanese mind in a hilarious explosion of culture shock.

This was fun little book. Satire, I guess. It’s one of those books that’s just so silly you have to suspend belief from the very beginning. Also, I’m not sure anyone should believe anything about Japan based solely on this book.
